Imagine an outfit that looks like space age haute couture, created using the most sophisticated computer technology imaginable, yet with a nostalgic nod to the old artisanal crafts of a previous century. This is Foræva, the perfect dress for a red carpet event on Mars.
We have two London-based Romanians to thank for this extraordinary garment: fashion designer Lana Dumitru and architect Vlad Tenu. They recreated the rich, vivid tones of a traditional Rumanian rug in this otherworldly dress with over 25,000 Swarovski crystals; they behave like vibrant 3D pixels that appear to undulate in patterns of geometric fluidity, thanks to the sculptural surface texture of the design.
Making the Foræva dress proved to be an incredible challenge involving complex three-dimensional computer-simulated models, algorithmic design methods, and digital prototyping. In fact, so complicated was the process that it took an astonishing six months for a 15-strong team to complete it.
We’re talking out-of-this-world, high-tech couture, digitally constructed for an impossibly glamorous intergalactic happening somewhere far, far, away. Fearless high fashion for the brave and the bold.
