Ilfari is quite possibly the last word in contemporary stylish luxury, famous all over the world for breathtakingly beautiful lighting that’s both whimsical and wonderfully eccentric. Founded in Holland in 2001 by designer Coen Munsters, he describes Ilfari’s style as “classic with a modern touch.” If you think that means “conservative,” think again: Munsters’ design aesthetic is inspired by dance music, which seems to flow through the offbeat elegance of his lighting creations, bringing delicacy and a sense of movement. All this without forgetting that a room at night has many identities and multiple functions, and lighting must serve all of them.
Made entirely in Europe, with production in Germany and materials sourced only from European suppliers, each and every Ilfari item is handmade to the very highest quality level, and subjected to the most exacting attention to detail. Designs deliberately set out to amaze people, start discussions, and become focal points of an interior. Munsters achieved this in particularly spectacular style in 2014 with Frozen Eyes, a tribute to a decade of partnership with Swarovski: “Crystal is like fire and water,” says Munsters. “It plays with the imagination. Every time you look at it, it changes. Like a small show. Dedicated only to you.”
For his latest design, Crystal Hearts, he covered the inside of the fixture completely with the new and highly exclusive Swarovski Fabric, using its sparkle to connect the lines of the fixtures. The outcome is an organic, classical sculpture with various rings placed side by side, from which the sparkle of Crystal Hearts is visible from every angle. Pieces of art, straight from the heart.
