After eighty fabulous years walking the walk in the haute-is-hot shoe business, René Caovilla is celebrating with two limited-edition capsule collections for US luxe-retail giants, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus. The idea was to pay homage to the shoes that have made its name, with the legendary René Caovilla archive plundered for iconic styles and inspiration. The results are breathtaking. Its signature style is all there—spectacular flights of fantasy created using traditional artisanal techniques; but this is vintage couture with va va voom, as classic designs are reworked with crystals, sequins, and feathers to bring them strutting over the leading edge of luxury fashion.
Each pair of shoes is handcrafted by five different skilled artisans, the whole process taking over eighteen hours of painstaking work in its Venice workshop. For the limited edition only, this exclusiveness is being honored in the packaging: inside the beautiful ivory-colored box decorated with golden detailing and the anniversary logo, you’ll find a sophisticated red lining bearing the autographs of the designers, together with a stunning booklet of original sketches and inspirations. Look out for news of the Bergdorf Goodman launch event in NYC in February. Neiman Marcus will be presenting its collection at its stores in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Miami in March.
