There can be few couturiers with brilliance so completely embedded in their DNA as Alexandre Vauthier. The designer has had a sparklingly symbiotic relationship with a certain crystal maison since 2012, when Swarovski—spotting a unique talent—began its collaboration with his fledgling label. Since then, Vauthier has used over 1.7 million crystals and crystal pearls to embellish nearly one hundred of his signature lavishly embroidered shimmering luxe looks. He sums up the relationship thus: “Our histories are indivisible.”
Vauthier’s rise has been meteoric, with Swarovski’s belief in his vision borne out in 2015 when the emerging fashion star was admitted to the prestigious Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. When the ne plus ultra in the art of embroidery, Maison Lesage, created the remarkable crystal decorations for his SS16 collection, there was rapturous acclaim throughout the industry and the fashion-savvy public alike.
Ten seasons on, the dazzling duo are preparing to celebrate their work together during the Paris Haute Couture shows on January 24. It’s been a journey of triumphs involving exquisitely crafted embroideries, a breathtaking spectrum of crystallized colors, and scintillating new depths and highlights of luster and radiance. Look out for the showpiece from his SS17 collection: a crystal-encrusted gown specially designed to mark his anniversary with Swarovski. It’s truly extraordinary.
